CONECTA has secured a significant leadership within the community of Chilean technology companies coupled with a constant concern for the environment. To this effect we spoke to CONECTA’s General Manager, Mrs. Soledad Padovani, on the subject of the work initiatives undertaken so far with Tecnocal.

With a presence in the local market extending almost 20 years to date and chiefly focused on the development of monitoring systems (SPS Special Protection System), as well as suitable systems for qualified monitoring and control of electric power grids, CONECTA supplies the relevant equipment items and ensures the availability, security and reliability of power systems. Within this context, the company’s main segments are concerned with energy transmission, generation and distribution.

CONECTA has managed to meet its customer’s requirements and expectations amid companies of the likes of Endesa, Transelec, Guacolda, the Santiago Underground Company (Metro) and the large mining companies. Our Company also tackles electric audits which are directly related to energy quality issues.

CONECTA was recently awarded the development, construction and commissioning of a SPS-EDAC/EDAG which allows for a safe increment of energy. Such development is rated as one of the largest and most complex SPS systems to be brought on stream in Chile and, probably, in Latin America.

Against its declared aim of innovating and implementing projects linked to large industries, CONECTA is also set to penetrate the international markets elsewhere in Latin America, particularly in Peru, Colombia and Ecuador.

Likewise, within the noteworthy factors that account for CONECTA’s success to date outstand its technical capabilities and professionalism. Soledad Padovani, who joined the company two and a half years ago, pointed out: “The teamwork, the constant innovation capability and the wealth of experience gained throughout the development of over 50 projects so far, have been crucial for securing our well-known status we enjoy within the national technology industries”.

This year CONECTA and Tecnocal joined forces for the development of a project with the Santiago Underground Company (Metro) and which is now undergoing its final implementation stages. “CONECTA sold the system and Tecnocal was actively involved as a supplier of the electronic equipment kits and contributed with the design and development of 230 of such kits now fitted on 115 trains serving the Santiago Underground network. The customer is now running an information control system that enables its full monitoring of the driving status of each and all trains in circulation”.

A responsible business ethics and a sound concern for the environment are at the top of CONECTA’s daily list of priorities. Such priorities translate into a strict observation of a Quality Management System drawn along the guidelines of the ISO 9001 (year 2000) International Standards. Further to the point, such policy is aimed at fully meeting the expectations of its customers, suppliers and staff alike.

“I resorted to TECNOCAL because I feel very confident about the work they carry out”

From the United States, Giancarlo Bregante stated to us why he opted to work with TECNOCAL, a company he knew from its early inception, and which currently undertakes hardware development work for products to be subsequently commissioned by the reputable company known as IP-NET LLC; which Sr. Bregante currently leads together with his partner Sr. Max Morales.

IP-NET LLC is a company based in Florida State, USA and which operates with associate companies in the number of locations throughout the world. It was set up as an answer to specific market needs calling for the development, integration and implementation of Ecosystems aimed at supplying digital services. Such services are chiefly available through the grids owned and operated by cable TV companies and those of TELCOS, all mainly aimed at the Latin American market.

Nowadays, the main focus of the company is the IP-NET Vision Ecosystem, a Digital Television / Interactive IP-TV development which can deliver services ranging from Digital TV, Digital Music, VOD (Video On Demand), TSTV (Deferred Television), PVR (Personal Video Recording) to OTT (Over The Top) services such as access to social networks, Internet navigation and a large variety of other entertaining and education services. Such approach has proven to be a remarkable innovation breakthrough when it comes to traditional TV viewing and receiving video, voice and data services.

Within the noteworthy array of products and systems developed by IP-NET outstand the following: Complete Ecosystems for Digital TV (Hybrids and IP), Digital Encoders, Digital Demodulators (ATSC, ISDB-T), Digital Insertion Systems for TV commercials, CAP (Cable Access Point) and surveillance video systems over HFC networks and many other relevant products and services required in these specific areas.

“Nowadays TECNOCAL undertakes hardware developments for some of the IP-NET products under exclusivity, confidentiality and nondisclosure terms” says Giancarlo Bregante, one of the senior executives of IP-NET who rates TECNOCAL also as an important partner to his company.

Bregante also referred to the most important factor that has ensured his company becoming one of the most outstanding within this specific area: “Basically we have managed to develop an integrate own and third-party products with a view to delivering solutions which are open, upgradeable, low-cost and very efficient”.

As regards the type of customers onto which IP-NET is focused, Bregante stated that initially his company’s market was Latin America. Indeed, to this day they still have customers in Chile, Peru, Argentina, Ecuador, Honduras, Colombia and Mexico. Since then the Company has gone further afield and its list of markets now includes the USA and Europe.

With regards to his relationship with TECNOCAL Bregante said: “I have known Mauricio Cortés from the days when we were both students at the Santa Maria Technical University in Valparaiso, Chile; and have stayed in touch ever since. Prior to my coming to work in the USA, I had my own electronic engineering company and through it we both developed hardware and software items, chiefly aimed at telecommunications and telemetry projects. When it came to decide who should I develop hardware items with, I chose TECNOCAL because of its experience, quality and reliability”.

While pointing out the benefits to IP-NET by working with TECNOCAL, Bregante stated: “Although I have developed and led hardware and software development projects almost all my life, I decided it was not advisable to implement a hardware development area within IP-NET but hire a reliable company instead. I resorted to TECNOCAL because they are “tuned-in” with the way I like to work. Furthermore I feel very confident with the work they undertake, chiefly on account of its reliability, experience and quality”.

By developing a wide variety of business areas, Tecnocal has been able to develop innovative technology solutions such as a system which simplifies the mail verification requirements of the WSP postal service company. Sr. Francisco Codecido, WSP’s senior executive described how this new modality is providing a daily benefit to his company’s most important customers.

WSP is one of the largest private mail companies within Chile focused on providing mail distribution services. Further to the point, its business objective is to deliver all what the companies generate in the form of communications addressed to their customers, and ranging from letters, magazines, monthly bills to collection notes. Each month the company performs almost 4 million mail deliveries with its services being linked to delivery certifications plus envelope digitalisation, mechanisation and laser printing requirements.

The company started to operate in 1997 but for the past seven years its technology leadership experienced a remarkable leap forward following its implemented of a digitalisation system applied to all the “acknowledgement of receipt” slips. Since then the company’s customers can check through the web the whereabouts of all their correspondence pieces.

The main aim of such innovative approach is to provide a registered mail distribution service as required and used by telecommunications, retail, banks, insurance companies and such like. In Sr. Codecido’s words: “Our scope is to serve those companies whose customer bases encompass, on average, some 100,000 to 200.000 active accounts”.

For three years now, WSP has kept a mutually beneficial relationship with Tecnocal. Such link is in the form of a machine, system and method ideally suited for conducting a distribution control drive when delivering revenue generation documents and other valuables issued by a user or forwarding party onto an addressee. Such system and method are based on an identification code and a global positioning system developed by WSP whereas the machine was developed by Tecnocal. Such machine embeds sundry technologies (such as GPS) ideally suited for undertaking follow up initiatives on all mail pieces being forwarded. This device helped in securing a high degree of accuracy of the mail delivery services while allowing the customers to learn online the current status of their own correspondence distribution. On this issue Sr. Codecido stated: “As we see it, this specific solution has become an absolute novelty in the marketplace. Since we could not find a system of this kind readily available, in the second phase we resorted to a joint development with Tecnocal. We can now say that we are very pleased with the results and our customers are equally happy. Thus it is hardly surprising that we are now developing a third stage”.

As regards the benefits for WSP stemming from its continuous contact with Tecnocal, these are summarised in the fact it is the only company of its kind to have all its processes duly certified in line with the ISO 9001 – 2008 standards. The General Manager stated also that the benefits have also shown up in the enhanced service quality currently afforded to its customers and which, in turn, is reflected in the company efficiency standards. “Our idea is to continue working with Tecnocal in other projects that we have just started to evaluate or are undergoing their initial feasibility stages” Sr. Codecido said.

His closing remarks were: “As a company, Tecnocal is a tremendously creative concern whose main virtue is that it becomes passionate with all the projects it undertakes. It enjoys the technical capability of securing both a sound interpretation and implementation of all the ideas, irrespective of how extravagant such may sound to laymen ears. SONDA, is a Latin American leading company supplying Information Technology Services and thus fully capable of creating multiple solutions for its widespread customer base. As regards the public to which the endeavours of this well-known Chilean company are aimed at, Sr. Donoso went on to say that SONDA’s customers are chiefly active/leading operators in the corporate world and ranging from industrial and manufacturing businesses, pension fund management concerns, banks and other financial institutions, retailers and trading entities, forest and woodworking companies to agro industries to name a few. Furthermore, SONDA has been a significant supplier of state owned companies, government departments and public services alike.

Indeed, electronic equipment items – mainly specific technology solutions for the Transantiago Project – now fitted onto public transport buses have been the main contributions from Tecnocal while working with SONDA.

Sr. Donoso also touched on the subject of Tecnocal being a relevant supplier to SONDA: “I believe that there are very few companies in Chile that can support us with the development of specific component types required for subsequent insertion onto major solutions such as Transantiago”.
